We had the Flemish waffles, Gaufres à la Flamande in Brussels. The hot chocolate is really delicious in particular in the relatively cold temperature now. The Leonidas is a not to be missed. The waffles is so thick and soft. This one we have ordered is with strawberries, fresh cream and Chocolate fudge :) mmm.....really yummy! Here's a Waffle recipe video to share:-
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 eggs, separated
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Set aside.
In another bowl, beat the egg yolks. Then add the vegetable oil, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. This could take a few minutes. A handheld or stand mixer can be helpful here.
Gently fold the beaten egg whites into the waffle batter. This will help to make your waffles light and fluffy.
Preheat your waffle iron. If necessary, lightly oil the waffle iron with non-stick spray or a small amount of additional vegetable oil.
Once preheated, pour enough batter into the waffle iron to nearly fill the molds, usually about 1/2 to 3/4 cup, depending on your waffle iron's size.
Cook the waffles as per your waffle iron's instructions, or until they are golden brown and crisp. This is usually about 5 minutes.
Carefully remove the waffle from the iron and serve immediately with your favorite toppings. Some suggestions include powdered sugar, syrup, fresh berries, whipped cream, or even a scoop of ice cream.
Enjoy your homemade Belgian waffles!
Remember: The exact cooking time can vary depending on your waffle maker. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions for guidance on usage and safety precautions.
